Annual Muti-Trip Travel Insurance

Whether you’re travelling for business or taking multiple holidays in a year, our Multi-trip Travel Insurance plan is a 12-month travel policy which offers similar benefits to our Comprehensive or Domestic cover for multiple trips overseas or in New Zealand.

When purchasing this plan, you will need to specify the duration of your longest journey within the 12-month policy period to ensure all your journeys are covered. Each journey made on a Multi-Trip plan must start and finish in New Zealand, and the maximum journey period for any one trip needs to be either 15 days, 30 days or 45 days, as selected by you.

Our policy provides 24/7 overseas emergency assistance so can contact us if you need any help with overseas medical emergency.
During your trip if you fall sick or are injured overseas, we will reimburse the reasonable medical and hospital expenses you incur until you return to New Zealand, provided your injury or sickness is covered under your policy.

If during the period of cover your journey is cancelled, rescheduled, or shortened because of the circumstances that are unexpected and outside of your control, we will reimburse you up to the selected limit:

  • The non-refundable portion of unused travel and accommodation arrangements for your journey, that you’ve paid for before cancellation and can’t recover in any other way.
  • For the value of frequent flyer points, air miles, loyalty card points, redeemable vouchers or similar schemes lost as a result of cancelling the related services, but only if you can’t recover your loss in any other way.

For full details review the Cancellation section in the Policy Wording.

We will reimburse reasonable additional accommodation and travel expenses if you or your travel companion cannot continue your journey and need to return New Zealand, or your journey is disrupted due to any events described in Additional Expenses section in the Policy Wording.

If circumstances outside your control result in an unexpected delay to your journey of at least six consecutive hours during the period of cover, we’ll reimburse your reasonable additional meals and accommodation expenses. Please read the Travel Delay Expenses section of the Policy Wording for all the limits that may apply.
If your scheduled transport is cancelled, delayed, shortened or diverted during the period of cover – and that means you wouldn’t arrive on time to one of the events listed in the Alternative Transport Expenses section of the Policy Wording which, before you left New Zealand, you’d planned to attend or utilise while you were overseas – we’ll pay your reasonable additional travel expenses to enable you to arrive on time.
Cover is provided for your luggage and personal effects or valuables if, during the period of cover for your journey, they’re stolen, accidentally damaged or permanently lost. See Luggage, Personal Effects & Valuables in the Policy Wording for the exceptions to this cover.
If you need to buy essential items of clothing or other personal items because items of your luggage and personal effects are delayed, misdirected or misplaced by the carrier for more than 10 consecutive hours during the period of cover, we’ll reimburse you for the reasonable expenses you incur.

If during the period of cover for your journey, you lose any essential travel documents (including passports), transaction cards or travellers cheques, or they are stolen from you or destroyed, we will reimburse you for:

  • the issuer’s fees for any replacement costs (including communication costs) of the items which have been lost, stolen or destroyed; and/or
  • any loss resulting from fraudulent use of your lost or stolen transaction cards or travellers cheques other than those amounts covered by any guarantee given by the bank or issuing company to you as the holder of the transaction cards or travellers cheques.
If cash, banknotes, currency notes, postal orders or money orders are stolen from your person during the period of cover for your journey, we’ll reimburse you up to the amount shown in the Table of Benefits in the Policy Wording.

If your rental vehicle is involved in an accident while it’s being driven by you and you're the nominated driver, or if damaged or stolen while in your custody, we’ll pay you the lesser of (up to your benefit limit)1:

  • the amount specified that you’re liable to pay under the rental vehicle agreement, or
  • the property damage for which you’re liable.

If you’re diagnosed by the treating medical adviser as unfit to return your rental vehicle to the nearest depot, we’ll pay the cost of returning the vehicle (up to the applicable benefit limit).

Note: This cover only applies if:

  • you hire a rental vehicle from a rental company or agency;
  • you’re a nominated driver on the rental vehicle agreement; and

the rental vehicle agreement specifies a maximum amount that you must pay if the rental vehicle is damaged or stolen.

If you become legally liable to pay compensation for death or bodily injury to someone else – or physical loss or damage to someone else’s property – as a result of an accident that happens during your journey, we’ll cover you for:

  • The compensation (including legal costs) awarded against you
  • Any reasonable legal costs incurred by you for settling or defending a claim made against you, providing you have approval in writing from Allianz Partners before incurring these costs

If, during the period of cover for your journey:

  • a) you’re injured and due to that injury you die within 12 months of it occurring; or
  • b) something you’re travelling on or in disappears, sinks or crashes and your body isn’t found within 12 months and you’re presumed dead;

we’ll pay the benefit limit payable under the Accidental Death benefit to your estate, read the Policy Wording for full details.

If you die overseas as a result of an injury, or a sickness (including if you are positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic such as COVID-19), or pre-existing medical condition we have agreed in writing to cover, during the period of cover for your journey, we will pay for your reasonable funeral expenses incurred overseas or the cost of bringing your remains back to your home. The maximum amount we'll pay under the Funeral Expenses benefit is the benefit limit for the plan you've selected.

If you’re injured during the period of cover for your journey, and

  • a) due to that injury, you suffer permanent disability within 12 months of the injury occurring; and
  • b) your permanent disability continues for at least 12 consecutive months and at the expiry of that period, in the opinion of an appropriate medical specialist, is beyond hope of improvement;

we’ll pay the benefit limit payable under the Permanent Disability benefit to you, read the Policy Wording for full details.

Multi-Trip Travel Insurance is designed to have the same benefits as Comprehensive Travel Insurance (for international travel) or Domestic Travel Insurance (for NZ travel only).

Comprehensive Travel Insurance and Domestic Travel Insurance plans are for a single trip only, whereas Multi-Trip Insurance plan covers you for multiple journeys within a 12-month period.

When purchasing Multi-Trip Travel Insurance, you will choose the maximum duration of your longest journey this will ensure you have cover for all trips you make within the 12-month period. You can choose from three options of duration cover: up to 15 days, 30 days, or 45 days.

Note: If within the 12-month period you take a journey longer than the duration you have selected for your Multi-Trip plan you will not be covered for the duration of the trip that falls after the maximum journey period.

With Allianz Multi-Trip Travel Insurance, you pay one premium for all return trips you make in a 12-month period, each journey duration must fall within the maximum journey period you select for your plan.

You will be covered for as many return trips in the 12-month period as your maximum journey period allows.

At the time of purchase, you will choose the maximum journey period, three options are available: 15 days, 30 days, or 45 days.

Multi-Trip Travel Insurance plan is available to travellers of all ages.

Optional cover can be added to Multi-Trip Travel Insurance plans, for an additional premium.

Cruise Pack optional cover is available to travellers of all ages.

If you wish to add additional cover to your Multi-Trip Travel Insurance for activities listed in the Adventure Pack or Snowpack, you must be aged under 75 years at the time of purchase.

When you purchase Multi-Trip Travel Insurance you will be asked to choose the maximum duration for each trip. You can choose from three options: 15 days, 30 days, or 45 days.

The plan will only cover travel up to the maximum duration you have selected per trip, therefore it is important to consider what your longest journey will be and select the appropriate option to cover your longest journey at the time of purchase.

As an example: John is travelling domestically for one week (7 days) and internationally for four weeks (28 days) within the 12-month Policy period. John would choose up to 30 days to ensure is he covered for all his trips, as this is the duration of his longest journey.

An international Multi-Trip policy covers travel within New Zealand, if the journey includes an overnight stay at a destination at least 250 kilometres from your home (there is no cover for a domestic trip limited to less than 250 kilometres from your home).

For full details refer to the Policy Wording.

To cover activities like ocean cruising, skiing, snow activities, riding mopeds, or participate in adventure activities, you will need to purchase additional cover.
