You can contact us 24 hours a day, seven days a week for help with your overseas medical emergency.
If you’re injured or become sick while overseas, we’ll reimburse the reasonable medical or hospital expenses you incur until you return to New Zealand, provided the relevant injury or sickness is covered by your policy.
If you die overseas as a result of an injury, or a sickness (including if you are positively diagnosed as suffering a sickness recognised as an epidemic or pandemic such as COVID-19) during the period of cover for your journey, we will pay for your reasonable funeral expenses incurred overseas or the cost of bringing your remains back to your home. The maximum amount we'll pay under the Funeral Expenses benefit is the benefit limit for the plan you've selected.

If you become legally liable to pay compensation for death or bodily injury to someone else – or physical loss or damage to someone else’s property – as a result of an accident that happens during your journey, we’ll cover you for:

  • The compensation (including legal costs) awarded against you
  •  Any reasonable legal costs incurred by you for settling or defending a claim made against you, providing you have approval in writing from us before incurring these costs

Refer to the Table of Benefits in the Policy Wording for the relevant benefit limit.

Our travel insurance policies include selected cover for epidemics and pandemics, which include diseases such as Covid-19. If you contract an epidemic or pandemic disease (including COVID-19) after you have purchased your policy, provisions are made for you to claim for cancellation and medical expenses. Cover for medical claims related to an epidemic or pandemic such as COVID-19 will only apply if you contract the disease after you commence your journey.

There is no cover for lockdowns, changes in government alert levels, quarantine, or mandatory isolation applying to a population or part of a population. As with any travel insurance, disinclination to travel due to fear or change of mind is not covered.

Terms, conditions, limits, sub-limits and exclusions apply, and these are set out in the Policy Wording.
