Our Domestic plan for travel within New Zealand does not cover medical expenses. This plan offers benefits related to rental vehicle excess and travel delay expenses. Refer to the Policy Wording for more information on coverage.

You can purchase Allianz Travel Insurance at any point prior to commencing your journey.

You can apply to include cover under your policy for certain pre-existing medical conditions at the time of purchasing your policy. You will need to complete our medical assessment, which can be done online or by calling our team on 0800 553 550.

You may apply cover for pre-existing medical conditions is available in Domestic, Comprehensive and Multi-Trip plans, there is no cover for pre-existing medical conditions under the Basic plan. 

If you decide that you do not want your Policy, you may cancel it within 14 days after you are issued your certificate of insurance. We will give you a full refund of the premium you paid, provided:

• You have not started your Journey; and

• You do not want to make a claim under your Policy; and

• You do not want to exercise any other right under your Policy.

There is no cover under any benefit of this policy if your claim arises because you didn’t follow an advice or warning that a reasonable person would have been aware of, that has been issued by the New Zealand government (when an ‘Avoid non-essential travel’ or ‘Do not travel’ alert is in place), which can be found on www.safetravel.govt.nz; or which was published in a reliable mass media source.

Allianz Comprehensive Travel Insurance is available to travellers of all ages. 

Our Comprehensive Travel Insurance plan includes selected cover for epidemics and pandemics. If you contract an epidemic or pandemic disease (including Covid-19) after you have purchased your policy, provisions are made for you to claim for cancellation and medical expenses2.

Optional cover for sea and ocean cruising, adventure or snow activities can be added to your Comprehensive Travel Insurance plan for an additional premium.

Cruise Pack5 is available to travellers of all ages.

If you wish to add additional cover for activities listed in under the Adventure Pack4,5 or Snow Pack4,5, you must be aged under 75 years at the time of purchase.

If you’re planning to ride a motorcycle, moped or quad bike overseas may want to consider purchasing the Adventure Pack4 for additional premium to cover these activities.

 

Even if you purchase the Adventure Pack, you will only be covered while riding on a motorcycle, moped, motorised scooter or quad bike if:

  • You hold the appropriate class of licence (excluding learner’s licences) in New Zealand for the vehicle you are driving, or a licence valid for the country you are riding in, if your New Zealand licence is not recognised in that country;
  • When you are riding as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle, moped or motorised scooter, the driver holds a licence valid for that vehicle and for the country it is being ridden in. However, this restriction will not apply if it is reasonable that you did not know that the driver was not licensed and no exclusion applies to the circumstances of your claim;
  • You are the driver of a quad bike, and you are not carrying a pillion passenger – or are not a pillion passenger on a quad bike;
  • You wear an appropriate safety helmet at all times; and
  • You are not participating in any race or riding a motorcycle, moped, motorised scooter or Quad Bike in a professional capacity.

Multi-Trip Travel Insurance is designed to have the same benefits as Comprehensive Travel Insurance (for international travel) or Domestic Travel Insurance (for NZ travel only).

Comprehensive Travel Insurance and Domestic Travel Insurance plans are for a single trip only, whereas Multi-Trip Insurance plan covers you for multiple journeys within a 12-month period.

When purchasing Multi-Trip Travel Insurance, you will choose the maximum duration of your longest journey this will ensure you have cover for all trips you make within the 12-month period. You can choose from three options of duration cover: up to 15 days, 30 days, or 45 days.

Note: If within the 12-month period you take a journey longer than the duration you have selected for your Multi-Trip plan you will not be covered for the duration of the trip that falls after the maximum journey period.

With Allianz Multi-Trip Travel Insurance, you pay one premium for all return trips you make in a 12-month period, each journey duration must fall within the maximum journey period you select for your plan.

You will be covered for as many return trips in the 12-month period as your maximum journey period allows.

At the time of purchase, you will choose the maximum journey period, three options are available: 15 days, 30 days, or 45 days.

Multi-Trip Travel Insurance plan is available to travellers of all ages.

Optional cover can be added to Multi-Trip Travel Insurance plans, for an additional premium.

Cruise Pack optional cover is available to travellers of all ages.

If you wish to add additional cover to your Multi-Trip Travel Insurance for activities listed in the Adventure Pack or Snowpack, you must be aged under 75 years at the time of purchase. 

When you purchase Multi-Trip Travel Insurance you will be asked to choose the maximum duration for each trip. You can choose from three options: 15 days, 30 days, or 45 days.

The plan will only cover travel up to the maximum duration you have selected per trip, therefore it is important to consider what your longest journey will be and select the appropriate option to cover your longest journey at the time of purchase.

As an example: John is travelling domestically for one week (7 days) and internationally for four weeks (28 days) within the 12-month Policy period. John would choose up to 30 days to ensure is he covered for all his trips, as this is the duration of his longest journey.

An international Multi-Trip policy covers travel within New Zealand, if the journey includes an overnight stay at a destination at least 250 kilometres from your home (there is no cover for a domestic trip limited to less than 250 kilometres from your home).

To cover activities like ocean cruising, skiing, snow activities, riding mopeds, or participate in adventure activities, you will need to purchase additional cover.

Additional cover can be added by purchasing the Cruise Pack, Snowpack or Adventure Pack. You must be aged under 75 years at the time of issue of your certificate of insurance to purchase Snowpack or Adventure Pack.

Basic Travel Insurance plan provides cover for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, overseas emergency assistance and personal liability.

This plan does not cover costs related to luggage, cancellation, or trip delay. Basic Travel Insurance plan could be a consideration for travellers only wanting to cover essentials like medical and personal liability.

With Basic Travel Insurance plan you cannot purchase additional cover provided under Cruise Pack, Snow Pack or Adventure Pack.

The Comprehensive Travel Insurance plan provides cover for overseas emergency medical and hospital expenses, overseas emergency assistance and personal liability, plus cover for cancellations, rental vehicle excess, luggage and personal effects, expenses relating to travel delays and many other benefits listed in detail in our Policy Wording.

If you are pregnant at the time the policy is purchased, your pregnancy is considered a pre-existing condition. Basic Travel Insurance plan does not provide cover for pre-existing medical conditions.

You can apply for pre-existing medical conditions cover with our Comprehensive Travel Insurance and Multi-Trip Travel Insurance plans by completing our medical assessment online or over the phone.

If you fall pregnant or discover you are pregnant after the Certificate of Insurance has been issued, cover provided in relation to pregnancy is for unforeseen events only.

You will not be covered for:

  • A pregnancy once it is 24 weeks of more gestation; or
  • Any expenses for routine or regular antenatal care; or
  • Childbirth at any stage of your pregnancy or costs relating to the care, or health of a newborn child other than because of an Accident occurring prior to the 24th week of your pregnancy which:
          -  Causes you to give birth prematurely; or
          -  Requires you to be admitted to hospital beyond the 24th week of your pregnancy, during which time your child is                  born
